Decorating help!?!?

Hi I am going to redecorate (paint) my flat but its a rented flat so cannot make any changes can only repaint in same colours etc. Every room has a wallpaper border running around the top of every wall thus making it awkward to paint around it on the ceiling and the wall edges. What would be the best way? If i put up masking tape it may peel off the paper, is there anything else i can use? Or am i doomed to use a small brush that will take ages!

Thanks

    there is something called

    blue painters tape.

it is about 3 inches wide.

you tape it over the edges of the border. So long as you take the tape off right after you paint, it somes off easily, and protects the wallpaper border.

double check with your hardware store or Home depot or whatever about the painters tape – since i don’t know a brand name for it.

masking tape wouldn’t remove the paper, BUT sometimes
paint seeps under it. i have no idea why they call it masking tape.

Eep! Tricky one. You might try holding up a piece of cardboard and using the edge as a barrier while you paint.

check with the landlord about it…he may give you the o.k. to remove the wallpaper. should you use a masking tape make sure it’s brand new painter blue masking tape and remove gently after the job.

they make a special tape that is for painting. It’s usually blue or purple in color and you can find it at hardware and paint stores.

I use it for trim pieces and wallpaper border as well and it comes off very easily and will not pull up paint or wallpaper that it is attached to.

I used the blue low residue and tack masking tape from Lowes and used it on wallpaper, the thing is not to leave it on too long( like overnight) and remove an inch or so @ a time

What about taping "just below" the border, giving it another dimension of color (it will have a stripe, the color walls are now).

Maybe that will work, and the border will stay in-tact. Good luck with your project.

The trick with that blue tape is to take it off right away, or it sticks. You could always test first, in an obscure corner.

you can use low tack masking tape,or if not, then just take some of the tackiness off the tape by unrolling an arms length and press it against your clothing then apply to the wall..use a decent brush.2/3 inch for cutting in..good luck

Blue painters tape – works every time, you can leave it up for two weeks and it’ll still peel off smoothly. I would not suggest leaving it up any longer than necessary.
