Decorating with toile?
I’ve been trying to decorate my kitchen in green toile. I found some great green and cream fabric, but since there isn’t a lot of opportunity to use fabric in a kitchen, I installed green toile wallpaper. I love the wallpaper, but now I think that it doesn’t go with my fabric. The problem is, the fabric is green and cream and the wallpaper green and pure white. Can you decorate with two different toiles? Should I get rid of the fabric?

sorry but yes get rid of the fabric for your kitchen any way ,the contrast will make your fabric look dingy or dirty ,something that looks great with toile is a very small check its a classic match ,will look great in a kitchen and should be readily available in green and white check out ballards.com they offer some great fabric choices .(i too have toile in my kitchen and love it) An option for the fabric you’ve already purchase is to make some pillows -especially nice with back or deep brown cording on the edges
Your hesitation to use the cream/green toile with the white/green toile wallpaper is right, the two will never look good together.
Typically, toile coordinates well with checks and/or stripes. See if the wallpaper manufacturer has coordinating fabric. If not, take along a piece of your wallpaper to the fabric store. If you find a great matching check and/or stripe (yes, both will look great together), purchase extra yardage for a tablecloth, pot holders and place mats. Green seems like a pretty common color, I know, however, there are hundreds of shades of green. If you cannot get the green in the fabric to match perfectly with the wallpaper, it will stand out and you will not be happy. If that happens, consider a white fabric (something with texture, as not to look like a sheet) and add a 1" wide green grosgrain ribbon sewn one inch from the bottom and side edges of the curtain/valance. Another option which is very popular in Europe (where toile originated) is to put up lace in the windows (yes, even in the kitchen). Good luck.
