How do I remove wallpaper glue residue off my drywall after steaming off the wallpaper?
Your experience needed! Now that we removed our wallpaper using a professional steamer, we have a glue residue left on the drywall. How do we remove this safely? Running over the steamer over the areas just isn’t doing the trick, and Im concerned about damaging the drywall. Any advice?

mix some water and fabric softner together in a spray bottle.
that’s what we did when we took it off our kitchen walls!
Ditto on the fabric softener…best wallpaper remover…I mix it about 50-50 with hot water and sponge it on…left over paste wipes away…let the wall get good and dry before redoing anything…good and dry might be days of drying.
After the fabric softener treatment be sure to go over everything again with a sponge and warm water. Rinse the sponge often. If you are going to paint be sure to apply a quality primer first.
There is a product from the hardware specifically designed for this, that I tried recently. (it was a Do-it Best Hardware, but I think it wasn’t a store brand) I was working with my sis-in-law and we both agreed that it worked better than the fabric softner method. Can’t rememebr the name but it was in a spray bottle with an ornage and black label.
if your walls where prepped properly before being wallpapered you wouldn’t have had that problem. they should have been primed with an alkyd primer before hand. fabric softener or any of that other stuff that the paint or hardware store tries to sell you is a waste of money it does nothing. if you have the paper and backing removed used a scrubbing brush and hot water to remove the paste. i use a sanding sponge. make sure you keep using fresh clean water till you get all of the paste off. if the drywall is damaged you will have to skim coat it with 2 – 3 coats of joint compound then drywall primer. if you are going to rewallpaper also apply a coat of alkyd primer before you paper.
try ”oops” or ”goop off”
A product called "dif"..Would’ve actually been cheaper than using the steamer and easier..steamers are so obsolete now with this stuff..here is a picture of it..available at home depots..walmarts etc..any diy store..
