Is it possible to put a wallpaper border on a textured wall?
I have textured walls in my kitchen and I can’t find a stencil that I like, but I did find a wallpaper border. Is it necessary to sand off the texture or can I paste the border over it?

Yeap ! Very easy …. Just buy regular wall paper paste , and put it on heavy ; Its goes up easy , and stays. Don’t try to put the border up by just wetting it , and using the paste on it ; it will not work ; extra paste is needed . Buy the pre – mixed kind . It comes in a plastic
container , and is very similar to the old regular " school paste"
that is used for grade school art projects …
We did it … we had a room upstairs that was very " time worn"
we covered it with textured wall paper, which hid a lot of sins, then painted the textured paper and then simply put the border up … It looks great …
Sorry to say, you will need a clean flat surface for your border unless the texture is extremely low, like a light sand texture.
You probably could put a border over texture, but borders are really out of style. Think twice before you remodel.
sand it down and glue it on
Sand it might work. and/or have very good glue will help too.
Another option might be to buy a piece of the border you like and make a stencil in the same design of the border. Get a sheet of stenciling material, trace the border pattern onto it, and then cut your stencil using a rotary cutter or exacto knife. All of these materials are available at craft stores.
I agree with one of the answers above: Borders are a bit dated, especially in rooms other than kids’ bedrooms. If you can make your own stencil, it will look a lot better than using a border. Plus, you’ll get the exact color you want.
Just sand where the border is going to go, And the pre pasted border don’t need any extra glue
We just put a border on our sand-textured walls. We asked Sherwin Wms if we needed any extra adhesive and they showed us a clay adhesive we could add.
We decided not to.
Our wall is not too textured but it’s definitely not smooth. However, if it’s anything like a richly plaster textured wall, definitely sand it or ask your wallpaper or paint supplier what adhesive they recommend.
Heck, if you try one piece of it and it stays, I would guess you are home free!!
We only did ours about 3 weeks ago but throughout this humidity, it’s been fine!! Except in ONE spot where we overlapped wallpaper border over wallpaper border. That started to peel off so we may have to trim it off or use a glue adhesive.
yes, but why, why would you ever want to put up a wallpaper border? eww.
Go to stencil sites online or blik.com for cool decals. good luck
